Use of spatial metadata in a LDAP/CORBA architecture
نویسندگان
چکیده
Organizations associated with the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have collected a large volume of spatial data. Descriptions of these data sets, called metadata, are seen as an important component to facilitate their access (Shah & Sheth, 1998). Most organizations have utilized some form of local or international metadata standard. To represent the diversity of the available metadata standards, a generic metadata standard is used to identify the common features from a sample of three metadata standards. The three standards are: Australia New Zealand Land Information Committee (ANZLIC) metadata standard; Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM); and Dublin Core (DC) metadata standard. These standards are presented using hierarchical Directory Information Trees (DITs) associated with the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). LDAP DITs are accessed using the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) which is an approach of particular interest to the Open GIS Consortium (OGC) (Buehler & McKee, 1998).

Mobility Support with Corba Directories
In the very near future, various aspects of mobility will play a major role in telecommunications. For the support of user and service mobility, the location-independent storage and retrieval of all kind of user-related information is essential. For this purpose, directories are the basic supporting technology. One of the most widely accepted standards for directories is LDAP. On the other hand...
متن کاملCORBA Directories for Virtual Home Environments
In this paper, we present a CORBA directory which serves for the easy deployment of intelligent services in VHE scenarios. This approach bridges the gap between LDAP and CORBA technology as the de-facto standards for directory and distributed object technology, respectively. We have implemented both pure CORBA servers and LDAP wrappers, each of which providing fully transparent CORBA access to ...
متن کاملSchema for Representing CORBA Object References in an LDAP Directory
Traditionally, LDAP directories have been used to store data. Users and programmers think of the directory as a hierarchy of directory entries, each containing a set of attributes. You look up an entry from the directory and extract the attribute(s) of interest. For example, you can look up a person’s telephone number from the directory. Alternatively, you can search the directory for entries w...
متن کاملStudying indicators of traditional architecture of Shiraz houses in order to provide a suitable model for contemporary housing design in order to use clean energy
rchitecture is always influenced by various indicators, the most important of which are climatic and physical-spatial indicators. These indicators are well observed in traditional homes and have played an important role in the use of clean energy. In this study, the aim is to study the climatic and spatial indicators of traditional architecture of Shiraz houses in order to provide a suitable mo...
متن کاملAVANTE: An architecture of CORBA components and XML Metadata for Web Based Instructions
Most current solutions for Web Based Instruction (WBI) use a centralized management model and a proprietary internal representation. The AVANTE Architecture is a WBI environment assembled using CORBA distributed components, implementing core services such as course management, user authentication, collaborative work, database access, presentation, and others. The AVANTE components conform to a ...
